Dr. Behjat Mirza was a remarkable figure in his home town, Nabatieh. He was a distinguished AUB student. He was even exempt from his final exams. Until this day Dr. Behjat remains the youngest physician ever to graduate from university. He spent his whole life serving the sick in his country and its neighboring villages even in Northern Palestine. He used to roam the regions, riding his horse in order to cure the sick and help the needy. He used to specialize certain days for different villages : on Wednesdays, he would visit Bint Jbeil. Thursdays were spent helping the sick in Aoudaysah, and Fridays were spent in Houla. In this manner, he devoted his life and experience in serving his community. He was aware that the value of each human depends on his will and capacity for giving. In 1960, Dr. Behjat received 4000 votes from Nabatieh residents and 1800 from surrounding villages. However, he didn’t win the elections. His father was one of the first citizens to introduce the agriculture of Tobacco into the Nabatieh region. He also participated in the rival of Ashoura rituals in Nabatieh.
